The sheriff had brought her the news personally.

Found dead in his holding cell...no inquiry...statements...case closed.

She breathed in as deeply as she comfortably could, and let it out. Relaxing fully against her pillows in the hospital.

Safe. From him at least. And they still won't tell me his name.

Not her problem anymore.

The bruises stood out in sharp contrast against her skin, and all her movement was stiff, ginger. Barring an infection, she would be released in another two days.

She had finished the book Angel sent. She had terrorized the orderlies with the toy Naraht so thoughtfully provided.

She was bored.

Under better circumstances, the Elves would have asked questions about the various things they saw around Las Vegas. The very sight of a city in the midst of a desert was astonishing.

Neither was considering such and the group entered the hospital with a somber air.

Shortly therafter, Grissom knocks on Sara's door. "Sara? I've brought some people to see you."

Sara looks up from the book she has been rereading, surprised. "Ada? My lady?"

Elrond's smile is quiet but peaceful as he moves to her side, one hand rising to touch her face gently.

"Sara... my daughter. it is good to see yoiu."

he will not say well, but his love shines in his eyes.

Despite his gentle touch, she flinches, a silent testimony to the abuse heaped upon her. "It's good to see you both," she says quietly. "There was a time when..." I doubted I'd make it back.

Elrond winces at that and draws his hand back. He sinks to his haunches beside her.

"My daughter... I feared... I feared I had lost you."

By this point, Grissom has withdrawn from the room, knowing the small family needs time to reconnect.

"I feared the same thing, dear Sara," Celebrian says melodically, a hand gently touching the back of Sara's. "Can you bear to speak of what has passed?"

She tells them the entire story, voice breaking at times when recounting the isolation, the overwhelming terror of the time she was with the madman.

"He wanted to own me. All of me. But I wouldn't let him. Thank God Jim and Gil found me at that point or..."

Elrond's eyes spark with anger and then he nods.

"I am glad you are safe now... and I am glad that you will hopefully be able to come home again soon."

he casts a glance at her body and hios eyes betray his worry.

"There's significant bruising," she says quietly, noticing his gaze, "as well as some minor fractures and cuts. Infection is the biggest worry right now, so I have to stay here a few more days."

he nods.

"When you return to Milliways... if you wish, I can speed your healing and yet preserve the illusion of the illness. You are... I do not like seeing you hurt."

His eyes are controlled now, but his love still shows.

"I might not return right away," she says quietly, not wanting to hurt him or Celebrian but being honest. "I have to find a new place to live and take care of some things. But when I do return, I won't go anywhere for a while. That's a promise."

he nods, slowly.

"I understand."

his hand seeks out Celebrian's and holds it.

"If we may be of assistance in any way, let us know."

he smiles.

"We are proud of you, my daughter."

"Believe it or not, both of you got me through it." She smiles, almost chuckling. "The bastard kept telling me I was alone. But you and everyone else has made certain I'm not. That was literally a lifesaver."

he nods, a small smile on his face as he glances at Celebrian.

"You will never be alone."

"So, what do you think of Vegas? It's probably very different than anything on Arda."

Elrond glances around.

"It is... Ah... loud. And bright? And... I have in truth, far too many questions to even know where to begin."

She chuckles, shaking her head. "I find it that way and I was born to this world. Don't feel bad."

Elrond nods, his eyes showing the care his face does not. He looks at her and the heart of him lurches.

"I... this place is an amazing one. Perhaps another time, when things are calmer, we can return?"

He glances up at Celebrian not sure if she would wish it, but curious anyway.

"It is a most fascinating place, and I believe we would enjoy learning more of it, dear one."

"Sounds good to me. Let me get settled in a new apartment and all, first, but I'd be glad to bring you both back."

Elrond nods with a small smile.

"Indeed. Simply let us know when. Meanwhile, you must concentrate on becoming better."

he glances around again.

"How long are you here?"

"Too long," she says grumpily, startling musical laughter from Celebrian.

"I'll be released by the middle of this week, I think, so long as there are no complications. I'll have to come back in a month for some testing but..."

Elrond nods, his own smile slightly larger.

"I am not fond of being laid up either, as my lady wife can attest to. Hopefully it will go smoothly and quickly."

He fills his eyes with her, seeing her plains and her health at the same time.

"When Grissom's sick or injured, the rest of us hide," she says a bit louder, earning an indignant retort from outside the room.

Elrond's smile is slightly larger and he nods.

"Have you ought to read or do while you are here?"

"My friend Angel sent a book and I've also a dart gun with which to torment the orderlies. Other than that, no."

He pulls out a small book of Middle Earth tales and lore. Magfius translated it for him. He hands it over.

"This might help pass some of the time as well."
