OOC: Regarding Family
Aug. 18th, 2005 10:10 amI'd responded to this post but thought I would expand a bit.
Sara grew up in an environment of extreme domestic turmoil. Her older brother protected her to a certain extent and she had a stronger attachment to her mother than her father. After he was killed, she was placed in the foster care system.
She loves deeply, but it is difficult for her to trust that those she loves will stay with her and love her back. Barry was as much a surprise to me as he was to her, as I didn't expect her to willingly fall for anyone in Milliways. Barry greatly brought her out of her shell, more than he would ever realize.
When Sara first met Murphy, she saw him as a fellow law enforcement officer, despite his being a vigilante. He and Connor do many of the things she wishes she could do herself. And she would never deny that they have saved more lives than they have taken. Murphy, however, has been how she wished her own brother could have been. He is there for her. He teases her, he listens to her, and he cherishes her unconditionally. The knowledge she has of his eventual death (before Connor ever came to Milliways) has been a heavy burden.
Sara isn't nearly as close to Connor. He is very protective of her in a stifling way. On the one hand, she is flattered and touched, but on the other she is severely annoyed and I'm predicting a huge smackdown at some point.
As for her other close friends (Tony, Sooty, Ace), they are also family to her, albeit unspoken.
