Visitation

The sheriff had brought her the news personally.

Found dead in his holding cell...no inquiry...statements...case closed.

She breathed in as deeply as she comfortably could, and let it out. Relaxing fully against her pillows in the hospital.

Safe. From him at least. And they still won't tell me his name.

Not her problem anymore.

The bruises stood out in sharp contrast against her skin, and all her movement was stiff, ginger. Barring an infection, she would be released in another two days.

She had finished the book Angel sent. She had terrorized the orderlies with the toy Naraht so thoughtfully provided.

She was bored.

"You know Sara if you wanted a holiday I'd have been happy to take you to Holby."

Doc with tulips. And not even bearing nasty things like injections.

"Guppy!" She sits up sharply, and then hisses with a muttered that was stupid, Sidle.

"Woah, easy there Sara." he says gently, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder.

"I brought you some tulips. How do you feel?"

"Thanks." She grins, taking the vase and putting it on the windowsill next to her bed.

"Sore. And bored mostly. Glad everything's over."

Guppy smiles. "I'm glad too, I was worried."

He sits down next to her. "Nothing much going on back in the bar. And back in Holby the only thing of interest is an epidemic of people glued to toilet seats."

"Wow. Any idea who and why?"

"No, but I'll have to be restrained if I find out. It's not just the fact that we've had to unglue twenty two people, but two of them were in the hospital toilets at the time and now we have to fill in incident report forms."

"Oh god. I'm going to have to do the same thing and give a disposition because of this psycho. If he weren't dead, I'd gut him for that."

Paperwork was invented by Crowley, one would think.

"Well if I catch up with him he'll be getting an incident report form up the area he was gluing."

He grins. "So when do you reckon you'll be letting this lot have their bed back?"

"A few days, hopefully. They're mostly worried about infection. And other complications." There's an odd note in her voice for a moment.

Guppy looks down at her.

"Are you okay?" he asks gently, squeezing her hand. "It's normal practice to keep people in for observation after things like this. Try not to worry."

"No, I'm not worried about that. There's a chance...considering what this guy did to me and his other victims that I might be infected with HIV. Won't know for a month or two, until the test can be performed. But it's not a possibility I can ignore."

Guppy doesn't know what to say to that. His face says it all.

He leans over and hugs her.

"Oh gods, I'm sorry Sara. Anything I can do for you, anything at all, let me know okay? Even on days when I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards I'm here for you."

"I know. And it's a possibility, but it's not probable. So I'm just trying to remember that. But thanks. I really do appreciate it."

Guppy nods.

"You're right, oh man that came out all wrong. I just meant I'm here if you want to talk not that I thought you had it. Sorry, I'll shut up now."

He rubs his forehead, feeling particularly verbally inadequate at this point in time. He'll never forget when he thought he had contracted hepetitis B.

Guppy nods. "Of course, I'm sorry."

He gives her a smile. "Here, this'll cheer you up." he passes her a photograph of three tiny kittens, two blonde and one black.

"Scampi's been busy."

"Awww, they're adorable!" Women like kittens. It's a thing. The lethal cute factor.

"Born a couple of days ago. Amanda's adopting two of them when they're weaned so you might get to see them in the flesh."

He smiles.

"I'm hoping they won't be too much trouble. The mum seems as bad as Scampi. She apparently steals spoons and tried to give birth in the laundry basket."

She laughs. "Cats are troublemakers by nature. I think it's genetic."

"Hehe, with a father who eats socks and shoelaces as well, who knows."

"Hopefully they won't be the kind to destroy houseplants or fight shadows on the walls."

"I don't mind him fighting shadows as long as the wall wins."

He grins. "Or at least puts up a better fight than the socks."
