"D-do y-you h-have a b-brush? Or c-comb?" She looks up, at that, mildly hopeful. If not, well. There is still a lot of Ray's Book to read hoping for a cure to present itself. "M-mine is in W-w-whistler's r-r-room. I d-d-don't w-want t-to g-go b-back there t-t-t-...y-yet."

"Yeah, I do." April nods and digs through her bag for a moment before producing a brush. "Whistler... oh, you must be Suzi." She smiles a bit. "Um... do you want me to do it? So you can keep reading?"

She feels really really bad for the poor girl.

Suzi beat up the Rivan Sorcerer King yesterday, and demolished a table. She's a little...off, yes. "Th-thank y-you. Y-y-yes, p-please. I am." And she can, maybe, be forgiven the tiny smile; "Usually th-the t-t-tent-t-tacles are th-th-the th-thing I'm k-known b-by."

April smiles a little and scoots over to sit behind her, carefully starting to comb through the mess of frizz. "I guess that'd be so. Except I just heard that you were seeing Whistler, so."

"So where're you from? Obviously not my world, I don't think people can have tentacles there."

"N-north of N-n-new Orl-leans." She says, because its cheeky but true, "Ab-b-bout t-twent-ty eight hu-hund-dred s-sevent-ty e-eight y-years in W-w-whistler's f-f-future. Th-th-the y-y-year w-was f-f-fort-ty eight s-sevent-ty, when I c-came here." They might have tentacles by Suzi's time! Although she's not from the same Earth, not really. She's from Quinn's version.

She can sit really, really still; Sime are predators on the same level that they are symbionts. "I m-m-met W-w-whistler h-h-here." And she's going to get him back, shedorni everything!

"Oh, cool. I'm from New York City, 1996." April smiles a bit, still brushing. "Bet you're pretty anxious to get him back to normal, huh?"

"W-w-we l-l-live in S-san F-f-rancis-co, n-ninet-teen n-ninet-ty t-two." She says quietly, "I c-can't l-live w-with out h-him. N-n-n-ot b-b-being d-dramat-tic, either. W-w-we're s-symb-biot-tic, n-now."

"Shit." April winces. "That must make this... really really hard. And yes, I know that's an understatement."

She finishes with the necessary brushing and keeps doing it.

Hey, it's relaxing to her. Maybe it will be, a teensy bit, for Suzi.

Yes, yes not having her hair capable of both being in her eyes and brushing the sides of a door at the same time is a nice feeling. April will find, as she fights the hair into submission, that it has the potential to be thick black spiral curls. Suzi won the genetic lottery, there.

"M-m-my W-w-whistler ch-ch-changed sp-p-pecies f-f-for m-me." And, really, that says it all. How can you beat that?

April is silent for a moment. And rather envying the curls. But mostly thinking.

"He must really love you." she says softly. Then, a bit more determined. "We'll get him back for you. I promise."

Because she knows how much it hurts to lose the person you love. Even if it was her own fault.

Someone should teach her to do more than "toss a headband over them", really. "H-he d-d-does. And I l-l-love him." If situations were anything like normal, Suzi would turn and give the other woman a hug at the pain in her voice.

Right now? She marks it, makes a note to herself to share tea with April some time, and keeps reading.

As it is, it's more of a faded pain. She's been focusing on new things lately. New people.

She puts the brush down and combs her fingers through Suzi's hair thoughtfully.

"Hey, do you mind if I braid it or something?"

"P-please? R-r-rissa w-w-would at K-keon...I n-never l-learned h-how." She's not exactly...girly. She's very feminine, but not girly (with the exception of twelve pairs of bright red shoes).

Same with April - she's definitely a girl, but... not girly.

"Cool." April does, however, have some creativity when it comes to hair. She never braided or put up her own, when it was long, but she did Maureen's hair more than once.

After a moment's consideration, she starts braiding a small section of hair about at Suzi's temple. She'll make this vaguely renaissance, which'll not only be pretty, but it'll keep the hair out of her face and let it be down and show off the curls.

Whee.

...Suzi may actually ask to learn how to do that. "Th-th-thank you, Ap-pril." She says, only a little bit shyly. Mostly due to the stutter, truth be known, Suzi is about as shy as she is repressed. "D-d-did y-you l-lose s-someone t-t-to th-the b-bean c-c-curd?"

"Yeah. Whistler, for one." she shrugs a bit. "I don't know him that well, but we know each other."

She frowns then. "And my friend Matt. Really sweet guy, usually."

Some people might get jealous if a beautiful woman talked about their lover as being lost to a curse. Suzi? Not so much. He changed biology for her. She can share the loss, "H-he's e-easy t-t-to l-like." She says about Whistler, "I d-d-don't k-know th-that I k-know M-m-matt."

"He really is." April nods. "I met him the first day he was in the bar. Really nice guy."

She sighs. "Matt's a police officer. And he can hear people's thoughts. He's really sweet, usually. Helped me deal with some of my issues. I hate seeing him like this."

"I m-met him on d-d-day s-six I w-was h-here." She says very quietly, Then she perks up a bit, "I m-m-met him o-once. M-matt."

April blinks, then laughs softly. "That's the strangest endearment I've ever heard, but it's strangely sweet."

"Yeah?" April grins. "He's really nice. Kind of overwhelmed a lot of the time, because of the thought-hearing thing, but very nice. Usually, anyway."

"W-w-well b-bef-fore h-he t-touched m-me h-he d-d-didn't kn-know th-that th-they w-weren't oct-top-pus t-tent-ta-cles." She points out, and she likes being his cuter than a dead octopus assistant, "N-no-b-body is g-get-ting n-nice und-der th-this st-tuff."

"That's very true." April starts braiding from the other side of her face now.

It's strange, but she does keep hair ties in her bag, even though she hardly ever pulls her hair back.

Not that strange, really. You want one when you need it, but not to have it in all the time. Suzi's player understands entirely. "N-n-need t-t-to f-f-fix it." She pokes the cellphone he gave her again, nearly violently. That? That is not a present. That's an attempt at pacification.

"We will. We've got to." April nods and glances at the phone. "Do those things even work here? Matt was complaining about how his had stopped." She shakes her head. "Though I don't know if he'd even HAD one before all this started."

"W-w-whistler b-b-built a t-t-tower?" She has no idea. She pokes the on button and gets...
